30 Day Sibling Challenge - Day Twenty
Day Twenty – Jesus Prayer
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (John 17:20-21).
Read John 17 today. This is the recorded prayer of Jesus before the guards came to take Him ultimately to the cross. Jesus knew this. He was in agony over it in His prayer to the Father. He knew it was His time to die and make things right. Thinking of this we should know to pay attention to His last words. When people are about to die they usually say things that warrant our attention.
Of course everything Jesus says we should pay attention too but His last words in an anguished prayer cries out for unity. Unity among those who belong to Him. His dying wish for lack of a better word. Now that helps me understand just how important unity is. If we cannot learn to make this work within our own families then we are in trouble. We must work toward unity at all costs to honor our Lord.
What are your thoughts on this?
Have you ever been around someone to hear their last words or seen a movie about it? Were they important?
Seeing how these were some of Jesus last words don’t you think they were important? Do you think you can follow them?
Today’s Action
Make an intentional effort to live in unity today. In honoring the Lord chose to die to yourself and your desire in order to maintain the peace and do something for your sibling(s).
Parent’s Action
Help encourage this action today. Praise your kids for their intentional efforts you see. Discuss in the evening what you saw.
