Day 6 - They Did What?!
Today we are going to look at some siblings who took a bad turn with
one another. Again, try to identify where they went wrong. This will help you
as you learn to deal effectively with your own siblings. What was written in
the past was written to teach us (Romans 15:4).
Today we will read about Joseph and his brothers. They were a big family, 12 in
all. Competition started early on in this family between the adults so sadly
these boys were brought up in this kind of environment. Yet even if the sin of
favoritism exists outside of our control we must learn to trust God and submit
to His bigger plan.
Today we will read from Genesis 37.
1-What is the apparent problem with verse 4?
2-How did this affect their relationships with one another?
3-What does verse 5 describe Joseph’s gift as (This is more difficult to
discern if you do not know the entire story)?
4-In verses 10 and 11 what did Joseph’s father do to try to help the
situation?
5-What did the brothers end up doing to Joseph?
6-Why do you think this to be the case?
Today’s Action
Identify a wonderful strength of your brother or sister and tell them
about it. Take time to encourage them in this unique ability. Let them know how
you admire it. Make sure you are not jealous in your heart. God made each of us
with difference strengths and weaknesses. Encourage their strength today. Try
to keep this up.
Parent’s Action
Monitor again this exchange between your children. Help in any way that
is needed. With different personality types this type of thing can look so differently.
I have a child with extra sensitive emotions and one that lacks empathy. So
these exchanges need to be safe for them both. We want healing to occur not an
opportunity for more hurt. Help them understand their differences and help them
to be able to relate positively through those differences celebrating the ways
that God uniquely created them.
