Book Review: Rise by Trip Lee

This was a good read for young people. The author is a good example to youth and encourages them to live for God each day, while they are young. Essentially it is a call to youth to not waste their youth. The author explores some things that youth get easily pulled into and encourages them in a better way. It is never too early for young people to be an example of Christ in the way they live and I am thankful for this encouragement because youth do need it.

This book was an easy read. It would be good for Christian youth desiring to live for the Lord, especially male youths.

I personally like Trip Lee's music so I was curious to hear more of his story and was glad even as an older person that I read this. It was encouraging.

Book Review: Pulling Back the Shades by Slattery and Gresh

There is a book out currently called, 50 Shades of Grey, that is a damaging book toward one's mind and relationships. I blogged about it here. before but now like with all popular books these days there is a movie coming out about it on Valentine's days of all days...Christian woman, please do not see this movie!

This book, Pulling Back the Shades, is a book that the authors wrote to counter 50 shades but also to educate Christian women on sexuality God's way. Education is needed on what God says in His word about sex. The church needs to talk about this especially in light of what our current world is offering in the form of entertainment.

Pulling Back the Shades explores reasons why women turn to erotica and how to help with this. There are stories of women who have suffered at the hands of the sin of this stuff and are suffering grave consequences from it. The good news is that any woman can be free from it if she chooses too. The truth is that only intimacy can fill a woman's heart and like porn this false intimacy that is accomplished through books and movies like 50 shades destroys true intimacy. Great and amazing sex that lasts can only be experienced in a pure marriage bed between two biblically married intimate partners. Intimacy is much more than bodies banging together which may be thrilling for a moment but rocking intimacy that lasts and is extraordinary can only be experienced the way the Bible requires otherwise you are robbing your self of God's best for you.

There are great dangers that occur in your mind, heart, body and soul that do occur when you expose yourself to this. It is hard work to get them out of your mind so you can truly give yourself fully to the one you are married to or will be married to. Trust God's best and stay away from this stuff!

The book explores the psychological research that has proven this to be true. And it explores why it even matters anyway to God. It is a good and informative book that any Christian should read who knows women who are reading, 50 Shades, or other erotica type books. It will help you talk to them, warn them and counsel them back to the truth. Overall you cannot make people do anything but you can warn and help them avoid things that are not beneficial for them.

If you have the book, 50 Shades of Grey, they will send you a free copy of Pulling Back the Shades when you trade it in to them. Check out http://www.authenticintimacy.com/ Also, if you just need help they are great to counsel you in this area of sexual intimacy biblically, there is no shame in that. Most of us have been there in this war torn world whether we admit it or not.

If you would like a free ebook of this, Pulling Back the Shades, I have a few to give away. Just message me or comment.

Book Review: Ordinary by Merida

Overall I found this to be a good book.. It was an easy to read book about how ordinary life, which the majority of us live, is where the extraordinary is. It is true Christianity to live the gospel out  in our day to day interactions.

It was also a call to social action because too many of us in churches have fallen asleep in that area. The best way to share the light of the gospel is by being that neighbor who shows faithful neighbor love and speaks the truth in love to those in need. This book was just a reminder of this. Too often we get focused on doing big things when the most important things are the little things done faithfully.

This book can encourage any believer and remind them of what this life in Christ is really about.

Book Review: The Skeletons in God's Closet by Butler

I was not sure what I was getting into when I decided to review this book but I am so glad I did. The subtitle, The Mercy of Hell, the Surprise of Judgment, the Hope of Holy War, was intriguing to me. There is not much good teaching out there on the topic of hell but this book was gold. It helped me see hell as a mercy of God and see God's love more brightly. It was an informative read and saturated with gospel goodness.

This title would be a good one for all Christians to read. Christians need to be informed about hell, judgment and holy war because they are topics that people like to bring up. The sad thing about these topics are that they make God seem cold for letting them happen but this book shows you the merciful perspective of this. It clears up misconceptions of God and is thoroughly biblical.

This is a book that is helpful to read now and again just to be reminded because this is not a topic that is talked about much in the right way.

Book Review: Get Your Joy Back by Wallin

I adored this book! Any parent with special needs children will be encouraged by this. Any one wanting to understand what life is like for families that live with special needs daily should get this book. It was a breathe of fresh air for me personally because I am struggling currently with my family and child with special needs.

The author has experience with several special needs categories personally and through surveys and helping moms with other needs she can truly relate to any special need. Really no matter what trial you are facing in life through this journey, this book reminds you to keep your focus on Christ as you journey and that we are not alone.

It was a relief to read words that reminded me of my life and feeling of what "normal" looks like. I was relieved to know someone got this! Someone knew what I was going through physically, emotionally and spiritually. The author addresses all of these topics with an easy to read format which is needed for moms who have little time but each paragraph is grace filled and authentic to this struggle but with the hope of finding God in it.
