A Holy Fear by Fox

Today is a day when many fears are evident all around us. They have always been there but these are strange days where fear abounds. Fear improperly placed is not good. Fear placed in the One who holds all things together is good. This book helps you to see and move misplaced fears to the right fear of the Lord.

This book was very helpful taking the reader through the reminders of the goodness and sovereignty of God. It is a great reminder that any Christian needs today. It encouraged my soul to look to God instead of my own fears of the unknown.

This book is an encouragement to any Christian in their walk today. It was an easy read and scripture filled. Any reader will grow from reading it. I appreciated all the truth of God's word that was included in each chapter. I also think if you read it with some friends it would be nice for encouragement and praying together. We need others to remind us not to fear things of this world. We need others to point us to the only Fear which is fear of God because we are in awe of Him as our loving and good Father who holds all things together.

Is It Abuse? By Strickland

This book is a must-read for the church today. Too often we have given good intentioned or naive advice to people suffering intensely in relationships without wisdom. This needs to stop now. God has a lot to say about abuse. We must know what His word says to be wise counselors to people in these difficult situations. That is where this book comes in hand. It helps show you what the word of God says and how to walk it out appropriately with those who are suffering. We must be able to do this well as a church to really help the hurting.

As a biblical counselor, I recommend this as a must-read. I think it is a resource that will be used over and over again. Sadly, cases of abuse are on the rise so we need to know how to identify it and help. We are privileged to hear someone's story if they share it so when we do hear hard stories we need wisdom to know how to help instead of hurt. This is for everyone. Not just counselors.

I did receive a copy of this book at no charge from the publisher but also purchased my own because it is a book I will use over and over again.

Book Review - Habakkuk by Gresh

I had the opportunity to review this new Bible study. Habakkuk is my favorite book of the Bible and I like the author so it is no surprise that I loved it.

The author takes us through the book while connecting it to other helpful parts of scripture to increase our understanding. It also has a helpful timeline that is important when working through books of the prophets that can seem more difficult to understand.

The author made this book of the Bible accessible and understandable to anyone interested in studying the Bible. It offers great questions and charts that are extremely helpful to any learner. It can be done alone but would be best with a small group.

The study includes the opportunity to listen to the author teach through a weekly podcast as well at no extra charge.

Overall, I say it is a great study that would be worthy of your time for the sake of your growth in Christ.

Book Review of The Pilgrim's Progress and Study Guide by Vermilye

These books are brilliantly done. Not only can I read the story of the Pilgrim's Progress with ease, but I also have the added bonus of a study guide that aids the book with deeper meaning through the study of Scripture to go alongside the wonderfully written masterpiece from John Bunyan.

This is a wonderful addition to anyone's literature collection. It also makes the Pilgrim's Progress more accessible for this day and age because of the updated language. I really appreciated that. I also appreciated the fact that any changes that were made did not take away from the original book.

I highly recommend getting these books and reading for the joy that comes with them. They would be a great addition to a group bible study as well.

Book Review: This too Shall Last

This is a book that you will want to get. I was blessed to be a part of this book's launch team. This book is now on my top ten books of all-time list. I am so thankful for how thoughtful and biblical this work was. The skill with words and understanding intermingled beautifully. It is a must-read for the church today.

I was drawn to this book because I struggle with a chronic condition and there is not much out there that addresses when suffering lingers. This book finally filled that void. It is also printed in a great font that makes it easier to read which is important for many who suffer. However, I chose to read it slowly because there is so much treasure to unearth for one's healing and joy as suffering is unrelenting. I will be reading again and again.

I was creeped out at times because I was reading words that described things I have longed to express for so long but couldn't find. It was like someone was in my head. But that was also a huge blessing. It allowed me to grieve, laugh, and be free to be vulnerable. I felt as if the author was with me. This book has been a great part of my own healing journey. It has helped me see things I have also missed on this journey. Things pointing me toward Christ.

This book can appeal to anyone in any type of prolonged suffering. It is also helpful for someone who wants to understand some of what it is like for others living a life of unrelenting suffering. Honestly, the entire church needs to read this. It has the potential to be a healing balm to the body of Christ.

Book Review: J-Curve by Miller

This book is a must-read for all Christians. We are ones that should not be surprised by suffering as scripture tells us but instead look at it as a way to grow in Christ and share in His sufferings. Leaning into Him through these experiences brings the true resurrection power in our lives.

This book makes small deaths of dying to self very practical for everyday living. But also it doesn't miss the importance of resurrection that comes after death. Whatever minor or major struggle you experience, it can be an opportunity for growth. This is the biblical perspective we need as believers.

I enjoyed this book because it broke everything down in practical manners that are easy for us to understand gospel living. I was also challenged and encouraged. I really enjoy Paul Miller's books. This one did not disappoint.
