30 Day Sibling Challenge - Day Three

Day Three – Did you forget to Talk to Daddy?
Again we are looking at the James verse from the first two days. Here it is again. I hope it is sinking into your heart by now.

“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?
You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.  And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.” ~James 4:1-3, NLT

The next reason that is discussed is not asking God. Hmm. Did you ever think in the middle of an argument, Maybe if I prayed about this things would change? It is not a natural thought to have but God is saying we do not have because we do not ask Him. He is our Father the giver of all good gifts. It should be natural for us to ask Him. Whatever it is we need He will provide. If He withholds anything from us it is for our own good. He knows all things and we must trust Him with this. Yet, we need to ask God. He may provide that very thing. If we look at it this way by taking it to Him and then be willing to wait for His answer it will change our minds when we want to pick on our siblings instead of trusting God.

He loved us enough to die brutally on the cross, experiencing separation from God for the first time ever on our behalf. Would He not care about even the little things? Of course. Pray! He listens and will answer according to His will and wisdom. His life proves the fullest extent of love on our behalf. He cares about all things regarding us.

However, we also ask with wrong motives. Our hearts are deceitful beyond all things, we cannot rightly understand them (Jeremiah 17:9). Because of this, God knows best and knows what we should and should not have. We often ask for things with the wrong motive in mind. Sometimes even unknowing to us. I know when I was younger I may have asked God for a red sports car. That motive would have been so I would be cool. It would have been rooted in pride. It would be a wrong heart motive. Now a red sports car is not a bad thing in general but my reason for asking is not motivated in bringing honor or glory to God. It is pure selfishness and that is what we are trying to move away from here.

Today’s Action
There is so much power in prayer. Today I really want you to pick out a good Scripture or two to pray for your sibling(s). This will make a powerful impact on their life.

Parent Action
Praying Scripture is powerful. Help your children find some good prayers to pray for one another. Pick some for yourself to pray for them as well.
