Idol Lies for Tweens - Week Three

We opened class by reviewing the S.P.A. method and times they may have practiced it this week.

We reviewed some key Scriptures from the adults reading assigned (chapter 2). I wrote these down on index cards this time because it made it more interactive for the girls to all take part in reading. We discussed each and spoke about how these things can be potential idols.

After we discussed these we took time to discuss Genesis 4. The Cain and Abel story and what went wrong. What potential idol was present? Was there an option to do what was right? How we can then relate that to our own lives. How we can learn from it because all Scripture was written to teach us (Romans 15:4) and point us to the Savior, Jesus.

After this we took time in Ephesians 4. We spoke of our old self and new self. Wrote the qualities of old self and then qualities of new self. I am putting the pictures below.

The tap is there because I had them literally throw the card with the old self qualities. We then taped on the new self with the new self qualities. Talked about how idols cannot be removed because one will always rise up and fill its spot. We must replace them with God and His promises. These particular verses in Ephesians were great practical replacing tools that I hope helped them to see how this works.

Homework was to continue to pay attention to cues in body and practice S.P.A. Help one another out in doing this.
